C1880 French Silevred Bronze Tazza

This heavy and elegant tazza, or comport, is bronze electroplated with silver. The classical form imitates ancient Greek pottery and silver. There is a roundel with a portrait of a lady with grapes and grapevine in her hair: a maenad? Vitruvian scrolls and anthemions decorate the underneath of the cup, and the foot.

20 cm wide, 12.5 cm high 14.5 cm diameter.
