C1880 Ormolu Casket by Erhard and Sons, founded 1844
The Germanic firm of Erhard und Sohene was founded in 1844 by Carl Gottlieb Erhard and his sons, Carl and Julius. The firm produced luxury goods of brass and bronze that were usually silver or gold plated. This charming neoclassical casket is gold plated bronze (ormolu). Much of the gold has gone from the top, but the sides and base still retain traces of gold. The key is pierced and shows a lion in silhouette. The lock works. It is lined with a modern green velvet.
17cm wide, and 9 cm deep it is 8 cm tall.
