C1900 German 800 Silver Tray by POSEN , Jewish Silversmiths

The tray is heavy: 782 grams. It is 40cm by 30cm. The reverse is stamped with the crown and crescent mark and 800. It is also stamped pose. Jacob L. Posen would be the Posen of C1900. He joined the firm founded by his widowed mother, Brendina Wetzlar,  in 1869. The Posens were Jews of Polish extraction. The firm became the largest maker of Judaic silver in the late 19th century. The silver is of very high craftsmanship and the company received Royal warrant in 1903. Shamefully, the firm was destroyed and looted during the Kristallnacht in 1938 under the Nazis.
