C1900 Giant Hallmarked Silver Georg Roth, Hanau, Tray, Louis XVI style.

This spectacular 800/1000 solid tray bears fake 18th century French hallmarks, and is in the French, Louis XVI style. Hanau was a centre for fine silversmithing in Germany. The work was usually in an historic style, and exported. Faux hallmarks were employed, including fake British ones. The hallmarks on this magnificent tray were used by Georg Roth, C1900. 2350 grams. I am sure the faux hallmarks were meant to deceive contemporaneous buyers. 64cm by 42.5cm: big! The quality of workmanship is excellent.
