C1900 pair magnificent French Empire Fauteuil Armchairs

This pair of grand mahogany fauteuil armchairs with gilt bronze mounts is French, C1900. Empire in style, the chairs have fairly new cut velvet upholstery is excellent condition. The sprung upholstery structure is sound, so recovering would be inexpensive. They reflect the glories of the French Empire under the first Napoleon, so they act as political and nationalist statements as well as domestic furniture, as is often the case. The gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts have recently been cleaned, and the 23 ct gold is not shy or retiring. The armrests feature ormolu caryatid heads, and there is a goodly smattering of pierced ormolu mounts on the back and the legs. The mahogany has also recently been repolished. The chairs were meant to impress, and they still do! Fortunately, they are also comfortable. Perfect for enlivening a small flat, where they can be next to the sofa or used as dining or desk chairs. They are also not too small or characterless to grace a large and imposing home.Or: https://www.1stdibs.com/furniture/seating/armchairs/pair-of-french-mid-19th-century-empire-style-mahogany-ormolu-armchairs/id-f_14269911/?utm_term=low&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=criteo&utm_campaign=display_aus-pdp-criteo-non-exclusive&utm_content=d&currency=aud
