C1900 Pair Venetain Brustolon Type Armchairs

$2,650.00 the Venetian Pair

This spectacular and large pair of Italian, late 19th century carved walnut armchairs look as if they have come straight from a Venetian Palazzo. They may well have done just that! They are large in proportion: 113 cm tall, 80 cm wide and 70 cm deep. The richly carved solid walnut will wax up to a rich colour and patina. New Fabric could add colour.

The chairs are in the manner of the famous Venetian sculptor Andrea Brustolon (1662-1732) who produced lavishly carved furniture for the great families and churches of Italy. It is tempting to think our chairs might be by his great imitator, the sculptor, Valentino Panceria Besarel, (1929-1902) but I fear our pair are a bit too restrained!

The pair of Brustolon chair in the NGV are covered inn red velvet.
