C1912 Edwardian Sterling Silver Egg Breakfast Set

SOLD magnificently boxed.

Psychologically, the 19th century, the Age of Progress, came to a shocking end in 1912 with the sinking of the Titanic, the apex of technology at the time. It is not hard to imagine a wealthy Titanic traveller bringing essentials for a civilised life such as this breakfast set, containing an egg cup, a spoon, and napkin ring. These are housed in their spectacular original fitted leather box. Such sets were often used as Christening gifts. In line with very long tradition, this one includes the silver spoon. The presentation of an apostle spoon at the christening marked 16th century Tudor recipients as being "born with a silver spoon in their mouths".

84 grams of silver.
