C1930 Bronzed Speltre and Ivorine

"Chryselephantine" is the Word of the Day! Statues made of bronze with ivory are called chryselephantine, and were popular in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco' periods, being based on ivory and gold examples from antiquity.  They now cost many thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars.   This bronzed speltre (art metal) and ivorine sculpture is a cheaper imitation of such costly  luxuries. Standing 28.5 cm tall, with a marble socle 11 cm by 8 cm, this lady with a shepherd's crook, and a smart hat, is C1930, so an original of the period.
