Huge C2000 Oil on Canvas Painting after 16th Century Pontormo Fresco

This painting is large: frame 177 cm by 117 cm. The gilt frame is all carved wood. The painting is after a fragment of a fresco of Vertumnus and Pamona, painted between 1519 and 1521. Pontormo (Jacopo Carucci, born in 1594 and died end 1596/early 1597), painted the fresco in the Villa medicea di Poggio a Caiano, one of the Medici family's country estates. The complex myth of Vertumnus and Pamona comes form Ovid's Metamorphoses. The naked youth shown here is a random decorative peasant, not one of the main protagonists.
