Huge Church Ikon

A huge Russian ikon of the dormition of Mary, also showing Mary a second time as a sprit cradled in the arms of Christ, a charming mirror to the usual image of the Christchild cradled in Mary's arms. This enormous 19th century ikon was part of the iconastas, or wall of icons. The ikon is written in tempera paint on a ground of gesso laid on wood. It is in the "German", or Renaissance style. Moscow school, C 1850.

This is the only iconastas ikon we have ever had.?
