Japanese red Ginbari and Cloisonne Enamel Vase

Probably mid-20th century, this 12 cm tall vase is Japanese. The ginbari technique is similar to guilloche enamel, in that the transparent enamel is flooded over a patterned metal surface. In this case the surface is silver plated and is decorated with both an image of bamboo and an overall pattern. hence the enamel becomes a red glass mirror, with the pattern of the metal clearly  visible. In addition there is floral cloisonne enamel. Here the opaque enamel is held within cells or cloisons, made with retaining walls of copper wires. Perfect condition.
