Pair 1790 P.W. Tomkins (1759-1840) Etchings

$225.00 the orange Pair

These two etchings on wonderful orange paper are in modern frames. The engravings are by Peltro William Tomkins. A booklet of 12 such orange ground engravings dedicated to Queen Charlotte exists.

He was born in London, and was baptised 15 October 1759, the younger son of William Tomkins (1730?–1792), a landscape-painter, and his wife Susanna Callard. He became a pupil of the famous Bartolozzi

Tomkins was engaged as drawing-master to the daughters of George III, and spent time at court, receiving the appointment of historical engraver to the queen.

The frames are 34.5 cm by 29 cm, and a bit scuffed. The visible etchings size is 10.5 cm by 16 cm. The lats are relly good and should be retained if reframing takes place.
