A gentle fluff with a microfibre duster is all they will need. Domestic brass in the 18th centurywas usually gilded, silvered, laquered, in a clear laquer with a yellow cast to simulate gilding, or lacquered in opaque colour such as green, scarlet or black, and then decorated with paintings in the Oriental manner. Many brass objects of the period, having lost thir original surface, now give a false impression of 18th century domestic interiors.
