PAIR Paris C1770 Louis XV Fauteuil Armchairs by N.T. Porrot

$6,750.00 the prodigal Pair

We last sold these wonderful chairs in July, 2018. Now we are delighted to have them back. We had at that time reglued, polished and upholstered them, in silk damask. They have just needed a refurbishment of the polish (The image of the back shows the damaged polish, now restored.).

Both chairs are signed Noel Toussaint PORROT , whose atelier was at the rue du Pont-aux-Choux Paris .

Noel Toussaint PORROT became a master menuisier on 22nd July, 1761. He is noted for his predeliction for making sinuous Louis XV style fauteuil en cabriole (open armchairs with a curved back) such as you see illustrated here! The Chateau of Mongeoffroy, which is historically significant in furniture design terms, remains almost exactly as it did in 1777, having survived the Revolution. Almost all the original furnishings remain in the rooms for which they were made. A number of the chairs that have remained in this family home from the 1770s are by N.T.Porrot.
