Pears Still Life Painting by Dennis Ramsay

Francis Dennis Ramsay (15 March 1925 – 8 February 2009), known as Dennis Ramsay, was a Scottish portrait painter, trained in London and Paris, who worked mainly in Australia in the classical tradition. He was related to the renowned 18th century painter Allen Ramsay His most notable teacher was Pietro Annigoni (1910–1988), the internationally renowned grande maestro portrait painter of the 20th century. He moved to Australian in 1982 and died in Melbourne in 2009.

This painting comes with a 1993 receipt fo $1650. The painting is signed and dated?, (rather confusingly) lower left, " Dennis Ramsay MVIIM". Almost certainly this is to to be interpreted as 1993. 1000 and 7 before 1000. Unorthodox!

The painting is in egg tempera on paper laid on board. His detailed and skilled craftsmanship is much in demand. The frame is 38 cm tall and 46 cm wide.
