(SOLD) Satinwood Morant & Co Cabinet c 1860


(SOLD And Subsequently DESTROYED!) A fine Satinwood Louis XVI style mid-Victorian cabinet signed by Morant & Co, 91 New Bond St London. Morant supplied such luminaries as Qiueen Victoria (Royal Appointment), their graces the dukes of Devonshire, Sussex, Sutherland, and Cambridge, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Marquess of Londonderry and the Earl of Cardigan. When Queen Adelaide, whose image has ornamented many a chardonnay bottle, and consort of William IV, slept at Mamhead in Devon in 1838, the fashionable Society cabinetmaker George Morant (1790-1839) supplied the state bed. Adelaide, South Australia's capital, is named after this Queen.

The cabinet is stamped into the rear of the top plate.?
