C 1910 Vienna hallmarked Silver Salad Servers

$250.00 the ravishing pair.

Hallmarked with import marks for Vienna, 1902-1918, this pair  of salad servers is made of (probably) 800 silver and xylonite, or Ivorine. The wonderful silver handles are in the revived Louis XVI style of the 1770s. The import marks are the only marks so the silver was almost certainly manufactured in Germany specifically for export, not for release within Germany. A number of German silver manufactories produced silver specifically for export to Austria-Hungary, elsewhere, and particularly for Britain.  The spoon is 25.5 cm long and each handle is 11.3 cm long. "Sumer is icumen in" as the 800 year old song reminds us, so salads will soon be all the rage!

We have some other serving implements from the same set. Coming up soon!
