C1700 Pastel on Paper on Canvas Portrait of a Young Lady

Now in a later, probably C1900 oval frame, this wonderful portrait of a lady is executed in pastel, which explains its delicacy. The portrait is 18th century.  In the 18th century pastels were used extensively for recording images, since they were highly portable compared to then demands of oil on canvasses. As with our portrait, the pastels were usually drawn on paper glued to canvas.

Frame 53 cm by 52 cm. Pastel 46 cm by 36 cm.
