Rare C1720 French Regence Period Silver Candlestick (Argent Massif)

$4,500.00

This delicious rare, museum standard piece of Regence period hallmarked solid silver his an elegant candlestick dating to the very beginning of the reign of the infant Louis XV, when a Regent governed for the child. The candlestick is 26 cm tall and 13.5 cm wide. The maker's mark is an M and N over an I(J) or L. A crown surmounts. this. Regrettably, I have not been able to identify him or her yet. The E appears to be the Paris  mark for 1721, and the charge mark the crowned A for 1717-1722.

If anyone can help me with the silversmith's mark, I have been unsuccessful with the publications of Frank Davis, Jan Divis, Louis Carre, or even the reassuring tome of "French Master Goldsmiths and Silversmiths (Connaisance des Arts), among others.

Naturally we also checked all the Hanau marks!

The candlestick is solid, not weighted.
