Traditional Luxury and Comfort in a Tiny Apartment.

This tiny room is elegant, comfortable and welcoming. Many apartments are being built at present in Australia that are an “economical” 35 square meters (less than twice the size of my bathroom in a Victorian terrace!). While this particular room was photograhed in Australia in the late 1960s, it demonstrates that a tiny space can be comfortable and opulent. A grand statement is made by a Louis XV style commode  (say $3000) and gilt mirror ($1500), which compares well to a $6000 Featherstone chair, which can now be replicated by a reasonable copy from Freedom at $399. The soft furnishings are nothing special, and the floor wall and ceiling treatments can be landlord bland, but the commode and mirror make all the difference. (Hold your hand over these and the room is bland. The mirror also increases the experience of what may well be a room three metres square, as many new apartment rooms are. The Louis XV chair might be a real 1760s one, which we stock at about $3000 each fully restored, or it might be a good 1960s one which will cost you about $300.
